Does sprint consider the lg rumor touch a smartphone?

and do they charge you extra if you get a smartphone, or require any kind of data plan?Does sprint consider the lg rumor touch a smartphone?
The Rumor Touch is a Smartphone in that it is a PDA (personal data assistant). However, not all Smartphones require an "always on" connection to the internet. The phones that do require the "always on" connection are the phones that require the data plan. This would include Palm Pixi and Pre, Samsung Intincts, Blackberries, and Android phones, to name a few.

The LG Rumor Touch does not require a data plan. (For evidence of this, go to sprint.com, choose "shop", go to "Rumor Touch" then click "buy with new plan"; plans that do not include data are included as options).

However, do not use data if you do not have a data plan. This will cause you some real grief in your bills.
I do not email people from forums. I value my internet privacy.

I will try to explain this without tech talk.

The Rumor Touch does not require a data plan to be activated.

Your Rumor Touch may still be able to access the internet, even without a data plan. Don't use the internet or download anything if you do not have a data plan. If you do this, you will receive very high bills.

If you do not want a data plan, then you can request a Sprint agent to restrict your data. That way, your phone can not download anything or access the internet. You won't get high bills for accessing the internet if you ask the agent to do this for you.

The Sprint representative you talk to or the Sprint store person can explain all the charges for you. Make sure that you completely understand the following from them: Activation Fee; Prorated Charges.

"Always On" connection means that the phone is always connected to the internet, listening for new messages and the like. It's like keeping your Internet Explorer in your computer always running. Even if you do not see your browser, you are still connected to the internet.

The LG Touch is not an "always on" phone, like the Blackberries, Androids and Instincts. You are only connected to the internet when you tell it to connect. So, it does not require the data plan.

A Personal Data Assistant is a handheld computer. Most of these phones are handheld computers with a phone attached to it. This is what makes a smartphone. Is it just a phone, or is it also a small computer? If it is a small computer and a phone, it is called a "smartphone".

Some carriers require ALL smartphones to have a data plan. This is not true for Sprint, and this is where the confusion sometimes comes into play on Yahoo Answers. Because other carriers do, they assume Sprint does too.

Sprint requires a contract. So, you have to be 18.
